About this blog

The name of this blog, "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place", is taken from the title of a short story by Ernest Hemingway. It was previously called "A Black and White Photography Blog", but over time as I began to post more and more colour photographs, I felt the title needed to be changed. Photography is a distraction from the darkness, a clean, well-lighted place of sorts.

The reason this photo blog exists is simply that it is a convenient way for me to post photographs I take, as I take them. Not everything I post is particularly good, but I generally like something in each of them, for some reason. My main black and white photography website will always be where I display my favourite images, but this gives me an avenue to share some of the other stuff I photograph.

Although I pretty much always shoot in digital now (Canon EOS 20D / Canon EOS 50D), some older shots appear on this blog, taken with a Minolta X370 (35mm), or a Bronica ETR (medium format).

Some photographers that I admire:
Edward Weston
Ralph Gibson
